About Ignition
Ignition Sports Camps are not a cheap substitute for other community
or municipal camps. Our goal is to specifically support under-served
families in Pickering. We love the camping experiences that our city
provides and you will find amazing variety and good value by exploring
them. If you can afford to put your child(ren) in another camp we ask
that you do so! It's not something we're going to get all nasty about,
but every spot taken by someone looking for a deal is a spot less we
have for kids that won't otherwise be able to have camp at all.
With that out of the way, here's what you can expect during a typical
day at Ignition:
- Before-care starts at 8am. A supervised play time for those who
register, we task an appropriate number of our staff to watch over
the children while the rest of the staff sets up for the day.
- Camp begins at 9am with stretches, large group activities and a
review of the camp rules. Children are divided into groups by age
and they rotate through the week's sports with that group.
- During the morning, the children receive a lesson on the day's
character trait. Most of the traits are taken from the list posted
in all Durham Region schools. You will be provided a list of the
week's lessons topics when you drop your child(ren) off on Monday.
- Around 10:30 is the first of two Freezie breaks (provided by
Ignition). Water is available all day long, but children must bring
their own water bottles.
- Camp breaks for lunch around noon for about an hour. You are
required to send a lunch with your child.
- Children return to their sports rotation after lunch.
- The second Freezie break is around 3pm.
- Your child will be invited to hear more about the day's
character trait from a Christian perspective. This is an entirely
optional component and no pressure or incentive will be provided to
persuade any child to attend. Regular sports programming continues
at the same time.
- Camp ends at 4pm with daily prizes given out to children who
display the character trait of the day. Unless your child(ren) is
registered for after-care, please be onsite to pick him/her up at
4pm.
- After-care continues until 5:30pm for those who are registered.
The children enjoy superivsed play time while the rest of the staff
stores the supplies and equipment.
